However, we also recognize that the privilege of voluntarily facing the cold isn’t universal. Many people in our city are exposed to the bitter cold without choice—those who are homeless and socially excluded. For them, the cold is a daily battle for survival. That’s why we aim to give back by raising awareness and support for Kälte Hilfe, a Berlin-based charity that offers shelter and assistance to the homeless on the harshest winter nights. Through donations and community efforts, we hope to extend warmth and solidarity to those in need, reminding ourselves that resilience means not only enduring but also lifting others up.
A grassroot community since 2017
About Us - The Ice Dippers Berlin
The Community
We are a community of individuals who find strength, peace, and connection through the shared ritual of cold water immersion. For us, plunging into icy waters isn’t just about physical endurance—it’s a way to reconnect with nature, ourselves, and each other. Whether it’s the crisp morning air or the supportive smiles of fellow dippers, every session is a reminder of the resilience and joy that comes from embracing life’s challenges together. We welcome everyone, from curious first-timers to seasoned cold-water veterans, to experience this invigorating practice.

The Humans Behind the Cold
Our community started in 2017, founded by Jonas Wind, who sought a way to cope with the long, dark winters of Berlin. Battling depression, Jonas found healing and strength through cold water immersion. The ice baths became not only a source of physical renewal but also a profound emotional release. Over time, a supportive network of friends grew around the practice, transforming it into a vibrant community where resilience, peace, and connection flourished. What began as a small gathering is now a thriving movement of individuals who celebrate the beauty of nature—even in its coldest form.
As the community expanded, so did the organization team. With dedicated members stepping up to lead and inspire, the spirit of Ice Dippers remained strong, even after Jonas left Berlin in 2019. The team of dip leaders you’ll meet below are the heart and soul of our gatherings today. Each brings their unique energy, experience, and passion to guide and nurture the community, ensuring that every dip remains a powerful, shared experience. Get to know them in the bios that follow!

Jakob Neumann
Dip Leader Plötzensee
I joined Icedippers in 2017, right after moving to Berlin. I started as just a participant, but soon found myself taking on more responsibility, leading dips at locations like Plötzensee and Treptower Park. After moving to Wedding, I'm back to leading the dips where I started dipping too, Plötzensee. When I'm not ice dipping, I work as a primary school teacher.
I find immense joy in the social aspect of our dips and I try to bring in elements of self-reflection and meditation into my events. I believe that these dips bring people together and create a sense of community. I am proud to be a part of such an amazing organization and look forward to many more dips in the future!

Philipp Brüggen
Dip Leader Schlachtensee
I came to ice dipping because I like to try out where it becomes too uncomfortable for others. Through ice dipping I have learned to endure unpleasant conditions and to gain the positive for myself. The feeling of being wide awake and having my senses sharpened again after a dip is a passion for me that I would like to pass on to others!
Since 2021, I have been hosting the Dips at Schlachtensee and Krumme Lanke and have brought Ice Dippers to the southwest of Berlin. In addition to hosting and organizing, I have been taking care of our social media presence for two years and am the contact person for cooperations. I am known for always having my camera with me and capturing the moments and experiences we share.

Meritxell Giménez
Designer
I'm Meri, originally from Barcelona. I am a passionated designer working as senior branding designer at Urban Sports Club. I care deeply about well-being and I couldn't turn down the offer to help designing the website for Ice Dippers.
Here is my little secret, I am not an ice dipper, no way! But I love the vibrant community and I am so happy to be in a way part of it digitally!

Chin Man Yeung (Xin)
Software Developer
I joined for the first time in 2018 and inmediately felt in love with the concept and the community. Here, I discovered a way to bring back focus to my life while the chaos (and beauty) of Berlin was constantly consuming my attention. Even more importantly, I found incredible individuals with incredible life stories. Through my tech experience, I wish to gather more of them together. Right now, I am in charge of the Ice Dippers website, newsletters, online services and digital infrastructure.
Fun facts: #1. I don't even live in Berlin anymore, but continue my ice dip journey in Tallinn, Estonia. #2. During one of my dips, I met the person who would later become my co-founder for Psychedelics Integration. How many people do you know have met their partner in crime butt-naked in the freezing waters of the Spree?
